A Legacy of Service. A Future of United Leadership.

Dr. Masiku Phiri, former Secretary General of the Zambia Medical Association (2019–2021), is not running for office based on promises—but on proof. He has consistently demonstrated that when Zambia’s health system faces challenges, he doesn’t wait — he leads. Whether guiding policy reform, empowering doctors, or navigating a global pandemic, Dr. Phiri’s leadership has been grounded in results, not rhetoric.
Now, as a presidential candidate for the 2025 ZMA elections, he stands ready to take that leadership to the next level — with the full support of the profession behind him.

A Track Record That Speaks for Itself

1. From Paper to Policy
Dr. Phiri led expert submissions to Parliament’s Health Committee, directly shaping the content and enactment of several Health Bills — turning professional voices into national legislation.

2. Leadership During the Pandemic
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Phiri advocated for the recruitment of over 3,000 healthcare workers, including 400 doctors, to strengthen Zambia’s health workforce.
He launched “Caring for the Carer,” a ZMA-led initiative that provided oxygen and financial support to doctors when the system was overwhelmed.
He helped mobilize PPE and other essential supplies to supplement government efforts, and provided technical guidance to stakeholders for evidence-based reopening strategies.

3. Innovation for the Modern Doctor
Under his leadership, ZMA obtained approval to issue CPD points for HPCZ registration.
He also initiated the creation of a digital CPD platform in partnership with the World Health Association, hosted directly at the ZMA Secretariat.

4. Reforming Practice Standards
Dr. Phiri lobbied for the reintroduction of licensure exams through the HPCZ, raising the standards for medical practice.
He also helped modernize the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD), securing approvals from both the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Home Affairs.

5. Economic Empowerment for Doctors
In 2020, he helped establish the ZMA Cooperative — a groundbreaking initiative designed to improve the financial security of doctors and promote collective prosperity within the profession.

6. Defending Transparency
Dr. Phiri championed audited financial reporting and consistent accountability to members. He treated transparency not as a choice but as a governance standard.

7. Affiliate Support and Collaboration
He maintained financial support to RDAZ, partnered with MWAZ to drive shared equity-based initiatives, and empowered specialty bodies with resources to carry out CME and other professional development goals.

8. Media and Public Health Advocacy
Throughout the pandemic, he maintained a strong public presence, guiding health discussions through the media and advising government when border closures halted medical evacuations.

9. Recognition and Morale Building
Dr. Phiri revitalized the ZMA Annual Gala and Awards Night, ensuring transparent recognition of distinguished doctors and promoting morale across the profession.

Why He’s Running

Dr. Phiri now seeks to serve again — this time as President of ZMA — with the same values that have guided him before: integrity, unity, and bold service.

He does not come with slogans, but with substance. Not with intentions, but with a legacy already built. His campaign is founded on the belief that united leadership is not only possible — it’s unstoppable.

Final Word

“Together, we lead. Together, we rise. Together, we build the ZMA of tomorrow — without leaving anyone behind.”
